I know everyone has to go through their awkward rough patches when learning a language. The incorrect vocabulary, the poor accent, the lack of confidence and fluency. But the truth is that at the end of the day, English is a language and it’s something that enables communication. If you are successfully communicating what you mean and people are responding appropriately, you are succeeding.

So let’s look at it another way. Why don’t we think about speaking English from the perspective of what is being heard. Are you saying something clearly that is worth listening to?

    That photograph is how I sometimes feel like on the Internet.

    As for your post, personally it never bothered me when people tried to practice their English with me, but maybe that’s just because I have a lot of socializing to catch up on after feeling ignored in my home country. More generally speaking, this is why English corners are so important; native speakers go there so local students can practice with them. I only wish more native speakers would attend.
