Firstly, it seems to me that anyone will be able to become anyone. The rules of power will shift because it won’t be about money and status anymore, it will be about the relationships we have with each other.
Easy to say when someone else is sitting in a country right now with a corrupt leader and police force, feeling they are on the brink of war any day and the high-browed notion of societal shifts affecting our learning styles seems totally out of reach to say the least. However, one thing we can know for sure, is that nothing will be as it was before. I know for a fact that due to technology, the occurrence of corruption and bribery has diminished considerably, and it is harder than ever to deceive someone without them being able to check you out online.
Saying all that, it would be nice to think that we will all become wise in the future, learn from our mistakes, never make an error or even more profound – become completely perfect!!! Yes, I can hear you laughing now.
However, it won’t be like that. As technology impacts us, it won’t be just for the rich, it will build not bridges, but major highways between classes, and societal groupings. I know it is hard to imagine, but actually there is so much happening now that we accept on a daily basis that was unthinkable 10 years ago, and these ‘highways’ alone I can see, will make for yet another major collapse in hierarchy and will force our interactions between us to change. We will come to understand each other more, but it could also make for wider boundaries for those who are fearful.
The most exciting part to think about is that as technology takes over all the manual work, we will be left to be human, and in fact instead of all our mistakes and errors being the worst thing to happen, they will be relished and adored and used in other ways to better ourselves.
It seems a tall order for education to take us on this kind of journey because it will not be just about finding a job or work anymore, it will be about the world as a whole. Work will be just a part of our life that will be integrated into everything we do. It will enrich us and it will enable us to do more, be more and get more of what we each need.
Societal shifts will work in line with learning shifts, they will be in direct correlation to each other, because the future of our learning will be all about our relationships with each other.
