English has sometimes been known as the ‘borrowing language’ mainly because when it began, it came about due to people travelling from country to country and slowly gathering phrases and vocabulary as they went. But the question now is, are people who are using the language today still ‘borrowing’, and is English still changing like it used to.

The English language has had a few different times in history when it spread and borrowed quickly:

  1. In the beginning, when it moved across Europe.
  2. When England began to colonise different countries
  3. The industrial age where England developed business and industries internationally
  4. When the United States and England developed the modern international language of English through the use of technology
